This white paper documents the use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) during a range of recent European elections in 2024: the European parliamentary elections (particular focus on Germany), the French national elections, and the UK national elections. It draws on news reports, the work of non-profits, as well as academic research to discuss political deepfakes, chatbots, as well as attempts of self-regulation (both of platforms, as well as of political parties).
